Sarah “Sally” Jackson
Sarah “Sally”3 Jackson (George2, John1) was born 30 November 1786 in (West) Virginia, and died between 1830 and September 1835 in probably Clarksburg, Harrison County, (West) Virginia. She married Daniel Kincheloe 20 November 1806 in Harrison County, (West) Virginia.[i] Daniel was born in July 1774 in Prince Williams County, Maryland. His birth date is calculated from his age of 71 years 3 months at his death on 25 October 1855, in Harrison County, (West) Virginia.[ii] Sally died between 1830 and Sept 1835, probably in Clarksburg, (West) Virginia. He married a second time to Eleanor “Ellen” (Tunison) Bray, the widow of Judge John Bray on 8 September 1835, in Middlesex, New Jersey.[iii] Ellen was born in 28 February 1791 in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County, New Jersey, the daughter of Cornelius and Mary (Alward) Tunison.[iv] She died on 6 September 1875 in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County, New Jersey.
Daniel was a lawyer and succeeded Jonathan Jackson as Harrison County Collector in 1816.[v] He was a member of the Virginia Legislature from Harrison County before Statehood.[vi] He was listed as age 65 in the 1850 Harrison County census with real estate valued at $4000. His wife, Ellen, was age 60 and there were three mulatto children: Flora, age 20, Polk, age 4 and Mary J, age 1. All were born in Virginia[vii]. Previously Flora had been listed as a child of Daniel and Sarah. This was in error. Flora and her children belonged to Eleanor. Flora was listed in the will of Eleanor’s first husband, John Bray and in Eleanor’s will.[viii] After Daniel’s death Eleanor returned to New Jersey. In 1860 and 1870, Flora was a servant residing with Eleanor in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County, New Jersey.
Daniel Kincheloe was buried in Clarksburg in the Jackson ancestral cemetery, which was on John George Jackson’s land, today known as the Historic Jackson Cemetery. It is believed that Sarah is buried there as well. Ellen Kincheloe is buried at Bound Brook Cemetery, Bridgewater Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. [ix]
