I am the great great great great granddaughter of John Jackson. One of his sons, probably Edward or George, is my 3rd great grandfather. Their son was named Samuel Lewis Hays. His mother was named Elizabeth McCullough, and his adoptive father was John S. Hays. John Hays married Elizabeth 2 months before giving birth to Samuel. This was arranged, I have read, by the Jackson family, but there seems to be some disagreement about which son was Samuel’s father. He grew up at Jackson’s Mill, later building his own mill in Glenville and going into politics. While serving in the House of Representatives, he appointed Stonewall Jackson to West Point. Stonewall would have been either his 2nd gen. nephew or cousin.
It would be helpful to me if anyone had information about who exactly Samuel’s father was. I know it is one of John David Jackson’s sons because of DNA tests through Ancestry. Thank you.
As a descendant of Samuel Lewis Hays and his son Jon Eliot Hays, I would also be interested in this information.
