He married Caroline Virginia Moore 02 March 1842 in Harrison County, (West) Virginia1, daughter of Thomas Preston Moore. She was born 05 June 1824 in Salem, Harrison County, (West) Virginia, and died 07 August 1910 in Harrison County, West Virginia. Burial: Aft. 07 August 1910, IOOF Cemetery, Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia.

Jackson, and Meigs Jackson Stiles, wife of Samuel B. 2.Meigs5 Jackson (James Madison4, John George3, George2, John1) was born 22 January 1843 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, (West) Virginia, and died 22 March 1876 in Nevada City, Missouri. He married Martha Bassel 28 March 1871 in Harrison County, West Virginia, daughter of Stephen Bassel and Katherine. She was born Bet. July 1852 – 1854 in (West) Virginia.
His obit says he was buried in the Jackson cemetery but there is a tombstone for him in the IOOF cemetery. This may be a memorial marker or his remains may have been moved.

Death of Meigs Jackson
The sad intelligence of the death of Meigs Jackson reached Clarksburg, on Thursday. He died at his residence in Nevada, Missouri, on Wednesday evening, 22d inst., of pneumonia. Meigs Jackson was born in Clarksburg in 1843 and was the son of the late Maj. James M. and Mrs. Caroline Jackson. When he grew up he studied law and commenced the practice of his profession in Washington City in 1864. In 1865 he returned to Clarksburg and associated himself with Hon. C. S. Lewis, and soon obtained a lucrative practice. In 1869 he removed to Nevada, Missouri, where he soon attained distinction at the bar. Shortly after he settled in Missouri he returned to Clarksburg and married an estimable young lady of this place, who accompanied him to his new home. In the autumn of 1874 he returned with his family to Clarksburg and remained until October, 1875, when he and his family returned to Missouri. Mr. Jackson was a genial, war hearted gentleman who made friends of all with whom he came in contact. He had fine legal and literary attainments. His personal integrity was of the highest order. His industry was very great, and he was fast rising to distinguished eminence as a jurist. He was the grandson of Hon. J. G. Jackson, who became so distinguished in the early history of Clarksburg. He leaves a wife and one little son, and mother, brother and sister, and numerous other relatives and friends to mourn his death. He was well known and well beloved by all our citizens. “Remains of Meigs Jackson arrived on Saturday last from his late home in Nevada, Missouri accompanied by his wife, little son and his brother, T. Moore Jackson, who met them at Cincinnati. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John Woods, on Sunday afternoon, at the residence of the mother of deceased, on Pike Street, a large number of persons were present and followed the procession to the Jackson Cemetery. Eight of his first cousins, who acted as pallbearers gently lowered him into his last resting place, by the side of his distinguished ancestors, and his well known form and genial face were shut out forever from the sight of his mourning friends. May he rest in peace.” no date or publication cited”

“Meigs, son of James Madison and Caroline Virginia (Moore) Jackson, was born at Clarksburg, January 22, 1843, died at Nevada, Missouri, March 22, 1876. He graduated from Washington and Lee University. After graduation he practiced law in Washington, D. C. Afterward he returned to Clarksburg, where he was for two years engaged in the practice of law and in managing his wife’s estate. Then he went to Nevada, Missouri, where he practiced law in partnership with Senator Burton until his death. He married at Clarksburg, March 28, 1871, Martha, daughter of Stephen and Katharine Bassell. Children: James Madison, Meigs.”

“ James Madison Jackson, son of Meigs and Martha (Bassell) Jackson , was born at Nevada, Missouri, June 26, 1874. His father died there when he was two years old, and his mother then returned to Clarksburg, where he received a common school education. In 1888 he attended the preparatory school at Morgantown, West Virginia, and in 1890 and 1891 the Episcopal high school at Alexandria Virginia. At Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, he took a course in engineering, and he graduated therefrom in 1896. In the following year he was appointed assistant engineer of the Little Kanawha railroad, and in 1898 he held a similar position with the Ohio River Railroad Company. From 1898 to 1900 he was city engineer of Parkersburg, West Virginia. The Parkersburg, Marietta & Inter-urban railway was constructed by him from Parkersburg to Marietta, Ohio, in 1900 and 1901. since that time Mr. Jackson has been more active in business life than in engineering. Yet he was made a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, June 2, 1901, the J. M. Jackson Lumber Company, wholesale dealers in lumber, with offices in Philadelphia and he is president of this corporation. On October 20, 1902, he organized the Everglades Cypress Lumber Company, with its chief office at Parkersburg, and its plant at Loughman, Florida. Of this corporation also he is president. They manufacture fifteen million feet of lumber a year. Mr. Jackson is manager of the Jackson Land and Mining Company, with offices at Parkersburg and principal works at Clarksburg. He is a member of the Parkersburg country Club, the Blennerhassett Club and the Automobile Club, both of Parkersburg, and of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Mr. Jackson is a Democrat, and a member of the Protestant Episcopal church.” (West Virginia and Its People)

Jackson , born June 1873 was age 26 head of the household born in WV? his mother Martha was age 45, born July 1854, stated she had 3 children and 3 living. (She had remarried to David Burns in 1886, but is using the Jackson name in this census. Listed as daughter was Meigs Jackson born 1876 who would be James’ sister, and Catherine Jackson age 7 born April 1893 in West Virginia.

In 1930 he was age 56 and Katharine T. was age 53 living in Parkersburg.

In 1922 he established the J. Madison Jackson Scholarship-Athletic Fund, to reward the accomplishments of selected Parkersburg High School students. His bequest to the board of education suggested that each of the recipients be given a twenty dollar gold piece.
6 ii. Meigs A. Jackson, born Abt. 1877 in West Virginia. She married Samuel Brown Stiles 22 January 1902 in Harrison County, West Virginia2; born 07 April 1873 in Baltimore, Maryland.
They lived in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia on Market Street. In 1920 he was President of an oil company.
Both were residents of Parkersburg, WV at the time of their marriage.
3.Thomas Theodore Moore5 Jackson (James Madison4, John George3, George2, John1) was born 22 June 1852 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, (West) Virginia, and died 03 February 1912 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. Burial: Aft. 03 February 1912, IOOF Cemetery, Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. He married Emmeline “Emma” Lewis 28 October 1884 in Harrison County, West Virginia3, daughter of Charles Lewis and Maria L.. She was born 19 June 1856 in Harrison County, (West) Virginia, and died 24 January 1950. Burial: Aft. 24 January 1950, IOOF Cemetery, Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia.
Thomas Moore Jackson inherited the home place, which was located on East Pike Street on a rise of land above Elk Creek. Family tradition has it that his wife wished to be nearer her sisters, Mrs. Waldo P. Goff and Mrs. Luther Haymond. Her husband sold the home and purchased a cottage six blocks away on West Pike Street. He remodeled the structure which grew into the Jackson mansion at 528 W. Pike. Until it was razed after WW II it stood where the new addition to the Clarksburg Post Office is today. (Cornwell, Clarksburg Exponent Telegram, Oct 7, 1984)

She married Edgar Needham 29 September 1923 in Harrison County, West Virginia4, son of George Needham and Abigail. They were married by J. T. Carle, in the Episcopal Church in Clarksburg. He was born 21 July 1888 in Wayne County, Indiana, and died August 1967 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia.
