John Ireland Hodges Sr., age 96, died Feb. 19, 2016

 

John Ireland Hodges Sr., age 96, died Feb. 19, 2016. He was born Nov. 21, 1919, in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. His family moved to Seattle in 1931 where he attended grade school, high school and the University of Washington. He served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the landing at Omaha Beach. The French Government recognized his service with the “Legion of Honor” award. He was a civil servant as a fisheries biologist in Oregon and Washington, D.C. He was predeceased by his wife, Marian Elliott Hodges. He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Stensrud; daughter, Shirley Costley; son, John Hodges; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grand-children.
