Stories of our youth – from Judy Donohoo

Grandpa Jackson was about 6’6″ (maybe a little taller) and weighed about 300 lbs. He chewed tobacco and always had a “spit can” by his chair (a 3 lb coffee can). We all hated to ride in his car because he would spit out the window. His 1954 brown Ford had a permanent stain on the driver’s side! At least none of the grandkids wanted to drive his car! A box of tobacco containing 12 squares (about like a deck of cards) was always our Christmas present to him. For my grandmother, it was chocolate covered cherries. Grandpa loved to play dominoes, and I played many a game of dominoes with him.
