Another story from his youth from Bill Jackson.

I have a lot of stories about my youth. Here is another one.

My favorite room was the dining room where we had the only heat. I lived in a house that had a kitchen and dining room downstairs plus a half basement. We always sat in the dining room, playing games or doing homework. We had an open coal fireplace that we had to bank every night hoping it would not go out so we could start it back again the next morning. We had our supply of coal under the front porch and I would usually have to get it.

My mother was the best cook. If you don’t believe me just ask my nephew Glen Cowgill who spent a lot of time in our kitchen and dining room. She kept the downstairs rooms filled with the aroma of home cooked food.
