Vickie Ann (West) Scrivener, age 63, died December 21, 2017

Vickie Ann (West) Scrivener, 63, of Lakeland, Florida, died peacefully at the Mike Conley Hospice House on December 21, 2017. Born on January 6, 1954 to Rex Channing West and Melba Anne (Jackson) West in Weston, WV. She attended and graduated from Rockville High in Rockville, MD.

 

Vickie later received LPN training at Frederick Memorial Hospital where she worked for three years. She first started in childcare in 1981. She registered her business under the name of Kicks’ Cottage. Many of the children called her Kickie, Bickie, or Wickie.

 

She served on the board for the Maryland State Family Child Care Association (MSFCCA) and Howard County Family Child Care Association (HCFCCA) for many years.

 

She closed her business in the late nineties. It was during this time that she co-founded the Partnership for Children, a non-profit organization. Vickie also worked as an independent trainer and as a trainer for the Howard County Resource Center. She was a strong advocate for children with special needs.

 

She worked in childcare with Marlene Miller at Miss Marlene’s House for many years until she was “sidelined” by two broken legs. She subsequently retired and moved to Florida in 2014.

 

Vickie would want to be remembered for her love of her family, her love of children and for her pets. Her faith helped sustain her through her many trials.

 

Preceded in death by her father she is survived by her sons Jeff and his wife Alicia of Ellicott City, MD along with grandson Theodore; and Aaron of Lakeland, FL. She also leaves behind her mother Anne West of Damascus, MD and brothers Kevin West along with wife Nancy of Frederick, MD and Erick West of Damascus, MD, along with several nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at First Alliance at 10 a.m. on February 17, 2017 in Lakeland, FL with the Rev. Tom Hicks presiding. A second memorial service will be held in Maryland at a later date and time. A private burial in Weston, WV will be at the convenience of the family.
